The Loss of Hearts- Alissa Velasquez Period:3 & Christina Nuno Period:1

Section 7 - 100 gaunt souls are crammed into roofless cattle cars. Normally this wouldn't be possible but since these prisoners are mostly just bones it worked. Every so often they would stop to throw off the corpses. The trip last 10 days and nights.  His father came very close to death but then again who there didn't? Heartless Germans would toss bread into the cars to taunt and tease the starving Jews and watch them fight to the death for a minor piece of bread. In one bread scenario an elderly man reached for the bread but his own son attacks and beats him to death. His own son! Then the son is trampled and killed as well anyway by others for the bread. One night someone tries to strangle Elie and his father calls on Meir Katz to help. Meir Katz rescues Elie but after this Meir Katz feels he cannot go on. Finally they arrive at Buchenwald. Of the hundred that was loaded into Elie's car, only a mere 12 made it through that trip. Elie and his father were one of those lucky enough to pull through, but sadly was among the dead.
(Crematorium)
Section 8 - Elie's father is very weak when they arrive in Buchenwald. All he wants to do is lay is the snow and rest. Elie tries to encourage him to get up but then abandons him when air raid sirens go off. Elie falls asleep. The next morning he goes to look for his father not exactly sure if he wants to find him though. He thinks about what he's been told about doing better without his father dragging him down. He finds his father and gives him his food. he feels guilty that he'd rather keep the food to himself to increase his chances of pulling through. His father only gets weaker and gets dysentery which makes him crave water. His thirst is immense but it is horrible to give someone with this fluid but then again he is dehydrated and dying from both. Either way with out without water is bad for him. The doctors say he is hopeless. He ends up giving him water. Elie is told to give up on his father and focus on him because he should be more important. The next time the man who gave this advice hears his father screaming his beats him. His father calls to him once more but Elie is afraid to answer. The next morning, January 29th, 1945, he wakes to find his father gone to the crematory. But instead of morning over his father, Elie feels free and relief.
Section 9 - After his father's death, Elie continues on with a mindset on survival and food. He no longer has feelings or cares about anything other than feeding his dying body. On April 6th it is announced that the camp's being liquidated and food distribution will stop. On April 10th the last of the prisoners were to be evacuated and the camp blown up but it is postponed until the following day. However, these plans were ruined when the first U.S. tank arrives that next day. The prisoners were freed and all they could think about was food. Nobody cares enough for revenge. A few weeks after Elie got better, he looked at the heartless soul in the mirror that this experience had turned him into. It haunted him for the rest of his life.

"Night" section 7-9, Reyna Corona & Hilary Duarte, Period:2

Chapter 7 : Elie and his father are now riding on the train to Buchenwald. They are tightly packed in cattle cars with 100 other prisoners. During the ride, Nazis gather up all the perished and throw them out of the cattle cars to make room for the dead. While riding, Elies father falls asleep because he is so weak and tired. While the Nazis are throwing out the dead, they try to throw out Elie's father, but Elie refuses. Elie tries to awake his father from a deep sleep by slapping him repeatedly, but fighting off officers at the same time, Elies father eventually awakes but 20 others were thrown out. There they had long days and nights traveling, and as they passed a German town, a man threw a ration of bread into the cattle car and watched as the men fought over it. Day after day , there would be several people, throwing bread into the cattle car , watching as poor prisoners desperately tried to get that little piece of bread. In one of the battles, Elie watched as a young man fought his own father for a piece of bread , and imagined him being that young man. One of the friends named Meir Katz , starts to lose hope because his son was taken from him in the first selection but it had barely hit him , that he lost his son because of all the pain he had endured, he had to be strong, to survive. Others grieved that night, because they had lost so many of their loved ones. By the time they reached their destination (Buchenwald), only 12 of them get off the cattle car and enter the camp.

Chapter 8 : Once arriving at Buchenwald, they are told to form ranks and Elie notices that his father is becoming really weak, but encourages him to keep going with hope of food and rest. His father wants nothing more than to just be allowed to sit and have rest, so he sits down in the snow. An air raid drives everyone into the barracks and Elie falls fast asleep. In the morning Elie starts to look for his father, but not with all his heart. He soon finds him and finds out that he did not get a ration of food and again not with all his heart gives his father his own ration. Later on Elie's father becomes sick with dysentery and begins to cry for water. Elie knows that it is very dangerous to give water to someone who has dysentery, but cannot refuse his father's cries any longer. One day as an SS officer is patrolling the barracks his father begins to cry for water and in an effort to shut him up the SS officer beats his father unconscious. In the morning of January 29, 1945, Elie finds out that is father was taken to the crematory and to his shame he does not weep, but instead feels relief.

This is an image of how the Nazis did selection and chose the Jews' fate.

This image shows the Jews raising the American flag to show they have been liberated and now have their freedom back.

This image is showing how crammed the Jews were on  the cattle cars and they went for days on these with no food, water, or place to reilieve themselves.
Chapter 9: Elie remains in Buchenwald not thinking of his family, but only of food.On April 5 with the American army coming closer and closer the Nazis exterminate all the Jews left in the camp. Daily thousands and thousands of Jews are killed and the American Army is fast approaching. On April 11 the American army liberates the camp and Elie and the prisoners stay to get food. While in Buchenwald he looks at himself in the mirror and thinks that it is not himself and thinks a corpse is looking back at him.

The Worse Is Over-Jennifer Rodriguez 2

Americans giving freedom to the Jews

Jews have freedom

Elie doesn't have to deal with torture nor death anymore due to that he's free

Helping a love one is something any one would do to help them live and try to recover .Elie did all he could to help his father stay alive ,when his father wanted water Elie would fetch some water .Elie didn't want to have his father being taken away from him .Elie didn't want to be alone ,he already lost mother and sisters ,and now he doesn't want to be left alone .This connects to when in the beginning ,Elie and his father were separated from his mother and sisters in Auschwitz.Till then Elie only had his father with him .He wouldn't let his father fall asleep in the snow nor let him rest when he was tired. He did all he could to help his father live alittle longer.Ever since his father passed away, nothing ever mattered to Elie anymore."With only one desire :to eat.I no longer thought of my father,or my mother "(113).Meaning that Elie didn't have anyone left to be with or take care of , it was only him that was left and he set out to survive and to feast ."At six o'clock that afternoon, the first American tank stood at the gates of Buchenwald"(115). This meant freedom to every prisoner at Buchenwald .Elie was then finally free from all the misery he had.

Darkness and Disconfort, Ch.7-9, Johnathan Gutierrez, Jonathan olade, johnny camacho, period 2

Section 7 of "night" starts off with Elie and his father are put into cattle cars, they felt very weak and felt that there was no reason to live or to fight. The cattle cars would stop at different places to throw out all the dead. At one point, Elie's fathers did not move, Elie had to slap him so that he would wake up. "Father! Father! wake up. They're going to throw you outside"(99). They did not receive any food nor water for nights and days. The train would pass through german towns, where people would throw bread and coins. Everybody in the cattle cars would fight and straggle each other for a piece of bread. Elie would see children killing there own fathers for bread. One night, a person was straggling Elie, Elie's father got the aggressor. That same night they arrived at there destination, everybody felt very weak, Meir Katz one of Elie's fathers friend stayed in the kattle car. They had arrived at Buchenwald.

Section 8 of "night" starts of arriving at Buchenwald, the jews formed ranks, where they would take a hot shower. Elie's father did not resist, he was to tired, he couldn't go on, Elie argued with his father to not giver up, but Elie relized that there was no way to convince his father. The sirens then suddenly started, Elie left his father. The next morning, Elie started looking for his father, he looked for him for hours, until he finally found him. He had fever, Elie tried taking care of his father but everyday he was getting weaker and weaker. Elie gave up on his father, he let him die. Elie felt relieved that he did not have any responsibility of his father anymore. "I might have found something like: free at last!"(112)

Section 9 of "night" Elie is still in Bunchenwald until April 10, the war was over. Not everybody was freed, only those who remained in the camp. Of those Elie was freed. When Elie was freed, all he could think of was food. When he gets to see himself in the mirror, he did not recognize himself.

Elie had been through many things, these years he had been in camps were the worst for him, loosing all his family, and loosing his faith in god.

Jennifer,Hernandez 9-1 "Staying Alive"

Jews were being liberated from camp.
Sections 7,8, and 9 of "Night" were the hardest and most hurtful months that Elie passed through. These last chapters demonstrate  the whole reason for why the book was titled this way. Some of the many struggles that Elie overcomes are hunger, cold temperatures, the loss of his father and facing death. In chapter 7, prisoners are placed in cattle cars after arriving at Gleiwitz. This section of the story seems strange because Elie prays to God so that he can  help him not make the same mistakes that Rabbi Elihou's son had done to his father. He realizes that he has to stick to his father so that they can overcome any challenge together. One thing that Elie will never forget is,seeing how the guards laughed at the prisoners killing each other for a piece of bread. In chapters 8 and 9  the prisoners arrive at Buchenwald after hours of restless running. In this time, Elies father is very ill, he had no strength to keep on living. Elie doesn't want his father to die but is upset with the fact that he doesn't have any hope to continue to stay strong and alive. At the end, Elies father ends up dying of dysentery. Elie in a way feels relieved that his father passed away because this way he can dedicate his time on trying to fight for his own life. On April 10, the camp, Gleiwitz, is liberated. The only thing that comes in mind to Elie, is to eat. These bad moments of his life that Elie went through, will never be forgotten!
Dysentery is the illness that Elies father died from

http://www.holocaustresearchproject.org/ghettos/images/bodies%20of%20Jews%20murdered%20in%20Lublin%20left%20lying%20in%20the%20snow.jpg we can connect this picture to chapter 7, because in the beginning of the chapter his father was asleep in the train and the solders were looking for the people that couldn't take the the freezing temperature. Elie didn't want to lose his dad so he tried and wake him up, but the solders were about to take him, right there Elie's dad woke up, weak, but he woke up. That is why we choose this picture because they threw the dead jews in the road like if it was just trash, and Elie didn't want that to happen to his bad.

this picture reminded us about the ending of the book when they are all free but only Elie made it because he doesn't know what happend to his mom or little sister because they got seperated way in the beginning. so hes all alone but at least he made it through.

Sonia Sanchez (Per 2) , Jackiee Salinas (Per 2), Andrew Basulto (Per 3) Mystery of the Dead

They were being transfered to another camp. How you may ask? Again they traveled by wagon. There on each wagon 100 squished with no air to breathe. Not many survived you may have thought that at least 50 might live? Well you're wrong not 50 not 40 not even 30 lived 20 survived the cattle wagon trip. They traveled days and nights once in a while they had food for them. That was the only way to keep them strong and keep them in agonizing pain. The guards got pleasure of throwing bread and watching them fight for the food. Many disliked the cattle rides. Who would enjoy being stuck in a car for hours and hours even days? I know I wouldn't. Once they found these people dead the grave diggers. Believe it or not one of those people close to death was Elie's father. If you were in that position what would you do? Would you leave him there or follow him?
This is a picture of the cattle cars and all the dead people thrown out of these cars.
Through out the story we find out that Elie's dad is on the verge of death. Elie needs to figure out what to do, he can't accept the fact that his father is about to die. The grave diggers were about to take him but Elie was lucky enough to get him back. He did this by slapping, hitting and screaming out to him. Elie did everything to get well again by bringing him his soup and water. Finally the guards told him that he could no longer get him anything they realized that he no longer had life in him he would eventually die. Before Elie's dad died they were at the Appelplatz camp. As usual they were counted one by one. Elie's father knew he could not go on anymore. He begged and begged until Elie finally agreed to let him sleep there. The next day he remembered that he still had his father so he went out looking for him, and he found him. Later throughout the that time Elies father grew weaker and weaker. On January 29, 1945. Elie had awaken and his father no longer laid on the cot that he had been on there laid another sick person.
Some Infirmaries were crowded and they were never helped

Elie realized he didn't need his father. After he died Elie almost felt relieved, he didnt have to worry about his father anymore. He can focus on surviving himself. When he died they took roll call and the prisoners found out that the camp was being evacuated. The SS officers were told to evacuate the prisoners one at a time, but then they decided to evacuate all of them at a time. Then the Germans came and started to librate the camp. The officers said to go back to their blocks, they started shooting, and yelling. The Germans won and they were librated. Everyone ran to get food they no longer seeked revenge. They wanted to eat.  Elie was free!!

They Are Finally Free!

In section four Elie and his father are still at Buna. While they are there they have to get medical examinations and dental examinations looking for any gold teeth. Afterward all of the prisoners are chosen by a kapo. Elie gets lucky and goes with his father, they both go to a kapo named Idek. For now and on Idek is there kapo as long as they remained at Buna. Idek has a very short temper and it is better for everyone to say out of his way and do what he says to do. Then all of the Jews are assigned to a certain block of work Elie and his father are put with a group of musicians and they all go to a  warehouse fixing electrical equipment. While working there in the warehouse Elie meets a French girl. Then Elie gets in Idek way and he gets in so much trouble they have tie him on his stomach and then they hit him he passes out half way then after its done he has no strength to get back up.

Night Section 5 Summary- Adrian Aguilar-4

Section 5 begins on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the last day of the Jewish year. The word last seems to spark interest in the other prisoners because it makes them wonder, what if it really was the last day of them being trapped, or maybe it would be the last day of their life. As the other prisoners pray, Elie decides to criticize God and all the bad that he has allowed to happen. "Why would I bless him? Because he caused thousands of children to burn in his mass graves?"(67) Elie has completely rebelled against God and has lost his faith because he cannot believe all the atrocities happening. This is completely ironic because in the beginning of the book Elie was a very religious teen who was eager to learn about Kabbalah. This just comes to show that his faith has died. Elie's rebellion is later demonstrated on the day of Yom Kippur. On this day, Jews usually fast, but Elie decides to eat anyway because his father told him to and because he thought it would be silly to fast when he has lost all hope in God. "And I nibbled on my crust of bread. Deep inside me, I felt a great void opening." (69)

A sign that hints at how you need to fast during Yom Kippur.

After the new year, there was another selection. Elie passed the test, but his father unknowingly did not. He was told to stay at the camp while the other healthy inmates worked. Before this, Elie's father gives him a knife and a spoon to keep and not to sell. Elie takes them and then reluctantly goes to work knowing he might never see his dad again. However, when he returned he found his father still alive because it had appeared that another selection had taken place and he passed that one. Unfortunately, Akiba the Drummer, did not pass.

A selection that took place in Auschwitz. The healthy men survived, but women, children, and weak men were sent to
be burned.

As winter begins, the workers have to work in the snow. One day while working, Elie's foot swells up and he is sent to the infirmary where the doctor tells him surgery will have to take place if he wants to walk again. The idea of surgery frightens Elie, but he didn't want to risk death for being weak. As Elie spends time in the infirmary, rumors about the Russian army coming spread around the camp. After a successful surgery Elie is released from the infirmary and is unsure whether to stay with the sick or evacuate with the rest of the camp. He decides to go with his father and the others by evacuating. Little did Elie know at the time that those who stayed in the infirmary were liberated by the Russians a couple of days after.

An example of some inmates in an infirmary.

Section 5 Summary, The Loss of Faith, Alfredo Arroyo-1 and Alondra Tamayo-3

Section 5 of “Night” starts off with the end of the Jewish year, Rosh Hashanah, where all the Jews of the camp gather to worship their God in a service. Many worship God the last day of the year and for some their last day of life. At this point anger strikes Elie, he asks “Why but why would I bless him? Because he caused thousands of children to burn in his mass graves?”(67). This quote demonstrates his rage that he has toward his God. Elie blames him for his family’s separation and others deaths. I believe that Elie does not neglect his existence, I believe that he no longer believes in a purpose to worship him. This is later demonstrated when he decides not to fast for the holiday, not because he did not believe in it, because he wanted to rebel and show man was greater.
A few days after the New Year selection commence. Elie was no longer with his father and he now worked in the construction site. The other prisoners would usually taunt him and others Jews about all they were going to have to survive. During the selection the Blockalteste suggest they run when being tested. When it is Elie’s turn he manages to sprint through the selection and pass, unfortunately his father does not pass.
This is one of the ways prisoners were forced to die if they  failed the selection.
This is why he did not want his father to fail the selection.

Elie’s father tells Elie there is another selection test and he gives Elie his spoon and knife. After a day of worrying Elie finds his father passed the selection and he gives his father back his utensils. However not everyone managed to pass the selections, Akiba Drumer lost his life in the selection after he lost his faith. Later during the start of January Elie’s foot becomes inflated and must be operated. He results okay, but must remain on break for two weeks in the hospital. It is not bad, they get fed a little more and get a break from work, however before Elie is fully rested the Russians approach the camp.
This is a picture of the infirmary at the camp.
It was just the basics of any hospitals or infirmary.

The officers of the camp decide to evacuate the prisoners and leave the sick behind. Elie then has to decide to march in his foot or stay in the camp. He decides to go with his father and in the afternoon the march starts.
This is a picture of the march towards the new camp and chapter.
It was organized to avoid the Russian army.

Jackiee Salinas Per 2 Section 5 Death or Life your choice?

Death or life? Your choice? This was the big question in section 5 of night. Elie decides for himself. In this section he didn’t want to leave his father alone during the holocaust. He shows this throughout the whole book. In the back of his mind he knew that one of them will not be able to survive. Elie thought this was the time. One day he was working. He could not stand on his leg finally he decided to go to the infirmary. The doctor had said that if he had come later his leg would have been amputated. They decided to operate on him during the time he had to rest, there was an evacuation taking place. He did not know what was going to happen to him nor his father. They could both stay in the infirmary, but they didn’t know if it was life or death. So they decided to evacuate with the rest. Elie could no longer feel his leg sooner or later it could be amputated I guess you have to wait for the next chapter to find out. Until next time. J

Section 5 Summary, To Believe or Not To Believe. Alissa Velasquez & Daisy Tello Period:3

Prisoner Jews praying for Rosh Hashanah
Chapter 5 begun with the holiday of Rosh Hashanah. Despite the cruel conditions, prisoner Jews still gather around to pray. However Eliezer did not. His faith in God has vanished since he'd been exposed to this harsh genocide. He no longer  felt the need to worship and fast for Yim Kippur in honor of God because God had done nothing to help his situation. His father didn't want him to fast either for the sake of his health but he still felt some guilt after his meals.
Utensils used during the Holocaust
Selection had come. Eliezer was given advice to run as fast as he can so he isn't marked as weak. He passed selection even with his injured foot and afterward found out that his dad had passed as well. However, when the day for the those who did not pass selection were to be executed, Eliezer's father was told to stay behind as well. In fear of being on the selection list, Eliezer's father handed Eliezer  all his valuables including his knife and spoon. Though it was not in Eliezer's desire to take the utensils and wanted to believe losing his father was inevitable he knew there was a possibility and took the silverware. Fortunately his dad took them back at the end of the day because he was safe.
Hospital in Concentration Camp
During winter, Eliezer's foot starts to hurt with the cold. He pays a visit to the doctor's and it turns out he'll need to have it amputated or get an operation. He starts to get comfortable in the better conditions of the hospital but his bed neighbor warns him he shouldn't get so used to being disabled. When the next selection roles around all in the hospital will be executed according to the neighbor. But then  again  his neighbor could just be trying to get him out of the hospital...

night section 5, Betsy Garcia Sarah Carbajal-2

                                                        Death Around Every Corner
The Jewish new year approaches and this causes Elie to question his survival. Its the last day of the Jewish year and he wonders if it will actually be his last day on earth. He is angry at god because he allows such suffering to happen in the world. " Why would I bless him? Because he caused thousands of children to burn in his mass graves?" (67) He doesn't believe a god that kills innocent people deserves to be praised. He begins to rebel against all he has ever believed in. On the day of Yom Kipper he decides not to fast. He does this in order to rebel against god and because his father asks him not to. After New Year there is another selection and Elie and his father are separated. Elie is sent to work in construction detail and his father stays behind. His father gives him his spoon and knife because he does not believe he will pass the next selection. When Elie returns from work he sees that his father did pass the selection but Akiba Drumer did not pass. Winter had started and the prisoners had to suffer through the harsh climate of the winter storms. Elie's foot began to swell and he had to go to the infirmary. The doctor says that he has to have emergency surgery. He liked being in the infirmary because there was more bread and he lived in better conditions but he was still worried about his father and selections. Elie's neighbor told him that there are also selections in the infirmary. He told Elie that he should leave as soon as he could walk because the weak and the useless were executed. Elie did not know if he should believe the man. Ever since he had been a prisoner he had seen so much darkness and hatred that he did not know whether or not to believe the man. He could take the chance the chance that he was telling the truth. One day he heard that they were evacuating the camp. He had to decide to go with his father or stay in the infirmary. He did not want to be separated by his father but he also didn't want to die. He decided to go with his father. Although, Elie's father hoped that they didn't regret evacuating the camp.
.Elie didn't have to leave the infirmary. The doctor had offered to allow him and his father to stay behind but Elie did not. He didn't stay because there was rumors that they were going to blow up the camp in order to hide all evidence and kill all the left over prisoners. Elie wanted to save him and his father. He later found out that the people left in the infirmary were  freed by the liberating army
These prisoners were getting ready to be evacuated from the camp.  Elie and his father were among these prisoners. Elie and his father hoped that they wouldn't regret this because Elie's foot was not fully recovered. If Elie's foot got worst they would have to amputate it and then he would be useless to the camp. That would put him at risk for execution.
Elie saw this throughout his life in concentration camps. He had lost his faith in god.  His rebellion was fueled by these images in his head. A young boy of sixteen had seen what grown men should never see in there life time. He hated the thought of praising a god that would hurt innocent people.

The Last Day-Jason Negrete P.3-Guadalupe Perez P.6

The Jewish year was ending. It was the last day, but to them it also meant something tragic. To them it meant the day that they could die, the last die of their lives, when they finally sink into the darkness of the night. Elie's innocence died that day and before him stood an afterlife of pain and suffering. Elie gave up all that he believed in even God. On the day of Yom Kippur Elie did not fast as an act of protest to God's betrayal. To make matters worse Elie wasn't even working in the same block as his father. They were separated for the first time since being forced out of his home
Jews going through selection
. As a new year "gift" the Jews would go through another selection. Elie manages to pass but his father gets called up by Dr.doctor Mengele during their dinner. After being put through a big scare, they are reunited again and went back to work as if nothing ever happened.

Jews in the infirmary
As winter arrived the work became more unbearable, Elie's foot began to swell from the cold. After it became too much for him to handle he went to the infirmary to get cured. At first, Elie feared that his foot might get amputated. If he was unable to work, he would surely get killed and leave his father to fend for himself. Elie was warned that the Russians were coming to attack and the camp had to be evacuated. In Elie's mind the sick would be killed in order to leave safely. He decided to escape and find his father even though his foot wasn't fully recovered.

The camp was evacuated by block numbers. Elie's block number was one of the last to go. After they cleaned their camp they marched out of Buna into the most difficult journey yet.
Jews leaving Buna

Before the Night Ends Ivy Mach- 1

It was the last day of the Jewish year, Rosh Hashanah. He starts to question again. He question how he is still alive, and when will his last day be. He feels that everyday can be his last day. He is mad at God for all this suffering and why haven't he done anything to save them. He thinks that he should not be praised. Then, the Jews go on a fast, Elie rebels and eats his ration of bread with his father. After the Jewish new years, another selection was announced. Elie was separated from his father to work in the building factory. He worries that his father might not pass the selection and he prays for him. On the day of the selection Elie's father gives Elie his knife and spoon, as his inheritance. The next day, a miracle happened when he returned from work, they have survived the selection.

Winter has arrived and it has started snowing. The prisoners had changed into slightly thicker clothes and start to suffer the winter season. Elie's foot starts to swell up due to the cold. He goes to the infirmary to get it checked. The doctor says that he might need an operation, and might not be able to use his foot. A few days later, he was told that he didn’t need an operation after all and it was only infected & will heal in a few days. He was told that he will be up and running in two weeks. Rumors has been spreading that the Russians were approaching and there might be an evacuation. The next day, Elie's father came in and asked if he was strong enough to go on the journey. Elie packed up and got as much bread and clothes as he can and tried to find a piece cloth for his foot. At nightfall, in the middle of a snowstorm, they began their evacuation of Buna.

Losing Faith Sonia Sanchez Per-2

LOSING FAITH

Have you ever believed in something when you were a kid, and out of no where you just don’t believe any more? Well, Elie felt that same way with God. Well being in concentration camp Elie has been losing faith in God little by little. Now, when the end is near Elie prays once in a while. Having selection, choosing who will live and die, Elie is happy because he passed, but when he finds out that his father didn’t, he starts to worry. His father says his good byes to his son thinking it’s the end for him. Image thinking your parents telling you good bye? It will hurt a lot. Elie comes back knowing that his father passed the second selection. After, its winter and Elie gets his foot swollen by the cold. He ends up going to the infirmity and well all this is happening, the Germans keep coming closer to the camp. The Nazis tell the people in the infirmity that they won’t be leaving the camp. Elie doesn’t want to be separated by his father so; he tells the doctor that he feels better with his foot. All this happened in CH. 5 and if this happened to you……. Would you have done the same thing? Knowing that if you stayed, you would be liberated but separated from your parents? What would YOU do?

The Germans & Jews Celebrating Rosh Hashanah

God Is Represented In Different Symbols

Horror That Was One Of The Things Elie Had To See & Experience

Ellie knowing it's the end of the year , the Rosh Hashana.Knowing it's the time for fasting. Most people fast, but Elie's faith is completely gone for God.In the beginning of his new life at the concentration camp, he was religous becayse life was good .While days pass, his belief for god faded away .He asks himself for what reason doe she deserve this if he was good.Obeying the rules, being good ,and yet this is what god gave me.His belief in god has changed with his father as well.He thought he wasn't the man he thought he was when his father was being beaten.Elie believes that there is no point in believing in anything ,if he knows that things are bad.In my opinion ,everything that Elie believed in ,may still be in him but he will still have that feeling of not believing .All he see's is death , horror, and sadness at the camps. He thought at first things weren't going to be bad ,but as he see's he deaths and torture , he now thinks that things are becoming bad.Who knows if Elie will continue to not believe in god , his father or in anything.

In section 6 we find Elizerr being forced to run to a new camp, and the SS will shoot anyone whole falls behind. The prisoners are running to a new camp because the Russians are trying to set them free and the Germans don't want that. While Elizer is running he meets a young boy named Zalman who eventually dies because he could not run  anymore. After the prisoners finish running they find themselves in a deserted village where they decide to rest. Elizer's father wakes Elizer up because if he falls asleep in the snow he would die of hypothermia so they decide to take turn watching over each other through the night. While Elizer is in the shed were he and his father were sleeping a man named Rabbie Eliahou is asking if someone has seen his son because they had gotten separated in the running. Elizer remembers seeing Rabbie Eliahou's son running ahead of his father because he thought that his father would not survive. Elizer prays that he will never do what Rabbie Eliahou's son had done.

While Elizer is being pushed around he find himself on top of Juliek. Juliek is the musician who he met in Buna, Sadly in the morning Elizer find Juliek dead and his violin broken. They stayed in Gleiwitz for three days without food or water. In the third day there is selection and Elizer's father is being sent to the left because he cannot walk well. Elizer runs after his dad and makes a big disturbance so that he and his father are able to move to the right. The prisoners are later waiting for the cattle cars to be transported but they are so deprived of water that they eat ice with spoons out of each other’s back. After the wait the cattle cars arrive and 100 prisoners are loaded in each cattle car.
