The Flames of their Fate, Susana Reyes-4

In the second section of Night, Elie Wiesel and his family are crowded inside the stuffy cattle cars with other Jews. There are about eighty people in each cattle car so you can imagine how crowded it must be. Here is a picture of Jews inside the cattle cars

Among those eighty people was a woman named Mrs.Shachter. She was apparently separated from her husband and two other sons, only left with her ten year old son. That separation and the situation she is in caused her to lose her mind! "Fire! I see a fire!I see a fire!" Mrs.Schacter yelled. But when everyone goes to see this "fire" there is nothing outside. Her son tried to calm her down and others as well, but she just kept yelling and saying she sees a fire. Then, in order to get her to be quiet, a couple of young men forced her to sit down and then beat her unconscious. But then she later woke up and started yelling again. Then, the train stops at a placed named Auschwitz. Then everyone in the cattle car sees flames and a chimney that Mrs.Schachter was telling them about. Mrs.Schachter stood silent and no longer screamed. Here is a picture of a chimney in Auschwitz and what is left of the crematorium:
